Access to the hills

Most land in Ireland is privately owned, so we rely on the goodwill and tolerance of landowners to give us access to the hills and mountains. Maintaining a good relationship with landowners is very important to us; wherever possible, we approach them politely and ask for permission to walk on their land. Culture & Heritage

Invariably, our walks lead us to archeological remains and historic sites. Many of our members are a fountain of knowledge on local history and heritage.

Wildlife, Nature & Geology

Walking in the hills brings us out into the wild natural world. A big part of the research our walk leaders do in preparation for walks is to find out about the plants, animals and rock formations we are likely to see. Every walk is an opportunity to enrich our knowledge and respect of the environment.

Conservation 

By raising awareness as well as adopting the Leave No Trace guidelines, we aim to tread as lightly and respectfully as possible when enjoying the hills. We believe that by helping people to access the hills, we raise the collective awareness of them and the need to protect them.
